La Roccia Holiday resort and campsite is located directly on  the southern coast of the Island of Lampedusa. The inlet on which it is situated is called  Cala Greca  a lovely undiscovered cove with tiny sandy beach at the beginning  opening out to a long calm bay ideal for swimming and snorkelling. The  resort’s west boundary demarks the beginning of the famous Rabbit Island Nature Reserve. This  nature reserve runs from its boundary with La Roccia along the whole southern coast to the far end of the Island, an area which includes three of the most beautiful beaches of Lampedusa.

La Roccia The resort is an oasis of trees and flowers. All the campsite area is well shaded. The owners The Gibilisco family have always been fervent ecologisits and support the eco-tourism movement. Umberto against great odds has been the one to be successful in creating this oasis almost a nature reserve in its own right planting thousands of trees and plants for over thirty years.

The resort offers various possibilities for your stay .We  have our little stone cottages based on the traditional stone constructions of the island called “ dammusi” these can accommodate two or three people together or the larger ones can accommodate a family of four. Other than that we can offer chalets and mobile homes . All these types of accommodation have en-suite bathrooms  with showers and hot water ,  kitchen facilities and  verandas.

The camping section of La Roccia offers basic caravans to rent for two people , camper parking , or tent spaces.

To complete your comfort we have a large attractive area consisting of a small supermarket , a bar and restaurant with beautiful sea views . At the end of the large terrace where various evening events take place is a solarium with sun-beds open to all  to relax sipping a great  Italian wine and enjoying the sun fresh air and fantastic sea panorama.

Right next to the solarium we have organised the well-ness zone a new service  which is still under development.

Rabbit Island beach  now world famous  is one of the most beautiful beaches/ bays of the Mediterranean. The first visit  guaranteed to take your breath away. In early summer it is on this beach that  the marine turtle the carretta carretta come to deposit their eggs.Other than Linosa, (the next door island to Lampedusa and  part of the archipelago Pelagie,) Rabbit beach is one of the few beaches in Italy where turtles still come ashore to lay their eggs. 

The turtle re-cooperation centre on the island will hopefully be open to the public this year. 

In season (Easter to October) flights to the Island  multiply to include direct flights from Rome , Bologna, Rimini, Verona , Bergamo and Milan . Booking of these tickets can be organised directly via the efficient office workers at La Roccia resort. Economy  Holiday packages can be booked with or without flight. The helpful assistants in the office at La Roccia will be happy to help and advise on all possible methods on how to arrive in the best and most economic way for your needs.  Other than these charter flights there are one or more daily flights from Catania and Palermo for the Island . There is also a connection to the mainland Sicily via sea. A ferry boat provides a daily service from Porto Empedocle , Agrigento via Linosa to Lampedusa an 8 hour trip (except Saturdays). There is also a faster daily hovercraft service.

Located nearer to the North African coast than mainland Sicilly Lampedusa is the southernmost part of Europe.

The sea is spectacular and the Island  offers numerous marine activities : diving with guided immersions at all levels even for the younger tourist , snorkelling , sport fishing, dolphin , turtle , whale watching . Round the island boat trips, day trips to the adjoining island of Linosa and/ or the uninhabited bird sanctuary island of Lampione. Visits to the Newer Marine Reserve on the East coast of the island are also highly recommended.

  La Roccia Resort  offers accommodation built following the traditional antique methods of the island , the typical dammusi are small stone built constructions  built out of the local sandstone. The resulting accommodation based on this traditional method means the accommodation is beautifully fresh and cool even in the very extreme summer heat .

   

LA Roccia offers the only camping facilities on the Island of Lampedusa. Again they are  kept simple and modest as always the main emphasis as in the rest of the resort is the close contact and respect for nature. The tent spaces extend right down the valley the last pitches a short distance away from the beach.

 The camping area is completely shaded  full of   a great variety of mature trees . In fact in this beautiful created oasis of peace and nature we have recently discovered it to be a perfect place to offer our guests the possibility in certain periods of the year to practice  the art of of Thi Chi, and the self curative  Qi Gong.

Times and dates of courses are found in the holiday plus and/or  wellness section. Yoga is offered all year round to our guests on  the fabulous  designated yoga platforms in front of a spectacular panorama of the Mediterranean sea at  our wellness zone, or the garden courtyard at the reception.
